Join our IOPD PETed series! The format of this session will be a one-hour informal discussion and interaction with members of the IOPD. IOPD President R Jason Cronk welcomes you to ask all your burning questions about the Design Process Standard published last year. The need for this standard is a culmination of several factors, and details the components necessary in a design process to incorporate privacy considerations and reduce privacy risks to individuals.

Differential privacy allows sensitive data to be shared in a manner that preserves insights in the data while offering a rigorous guarantee of protection for contributing individuals. In this talk Gerome will explain how we have successfully used differential privacy to unlock insights from highly sensitive data. This will include examples of practical deployments of the technology at major enterprises: the challenges, solutions, and lessons learned.

Over the past few years there has been a tsunami of new privacy legislation driven by the EU, UK and US to address user data privacy and online harms and risks to users including children. There is a spotlight on age assurance and age verification and increasing requirements for parent consent and controls. Privacy is no longer seen just as a cost centre but as an investment in brand trust and integrity.

Ensuring that privacy is incorporated from the design stage of products (Privacy by Design) is a challenge, especially when teams are pressured to deliver products quickly. This requires privacy engineers to work closely with developers and product teams from the outset.
